Cited in Scopus: 0Esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB), also known as olfactory neuroblastoma, is a rare malignant neoplasm of the sinonasal cavity. It is believed to arise from the basal neural cells of the olfactory mucosa.1 The typical location is the superior nasal vault and resection usually involves anterior skull base approaches, either conventional or endoscopic.2 Here, we describe a case of ENB involving the middle and inferior meatus with extension into the nasolacrimal duct and lacrimal sac. - CORRESPONDENCE
Nonhealing traumatic wound over frontalis silicone sling
Canadian Journal of OphthalmologyVol. 51Issue 3e88–e89Published online: April 16, 2016- Michel J. Belliveau
- Dan D. DeAngelis
Cited in Scopus: 0Silicone is a commonly used material for the frontalis sling procedure in cases of ptosis with poor levator function. It is particularly advantageous in young children who have underdeveloped tensor fascia lata. Extrusion of the silicone through surgical wounds is an infrequent but recognized complication. We describe a case of silicone sling exposure through a traumatic wound that evolved into a nonhealing ulcer. - Correspondence
Devastating herpes zoster ophthalmicus following orbital decompression

Cited in Scopus: 0Herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) occurs with reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus harbored in the trigeminal ganglion as cell-mediated immunity wanes. Age, medical immunosuppression with steroids or chemotherapy, hematologic malignancy, and HIV are recognized risk factors. We present a case of devastating HZO that occurred after orbital decompression. Surgical stress and use of oral prednisone in the postoperative period are believed to have contributed to reduced cell-mediated immunity. - Correspondence

Cited in Scopus: 6Lacrimal sac rhinosporidiosis is an uncommon infection and to our knowledge has not been reported in Canada. Rhinosporidium seeberi is a fungus-like parasite with an evolutionary origin near the animal-fungal divergence that causes chronic infection of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.1 It is endemic in India and Southeast Asia, but rarely a cause of disease outside of this region.2 - Correspondence
Acute anterior uveitis following zoledronic acid infusion for osteoporosis
Canadian Journal of OphthalmologyVol. 47Issue 5e22–e23Published online: July 12, 2012- Michel J. Belliveau

Cited in Scopus: 8Zoledronic acid (Aclasta, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Canada) is a bisphosphonate used in the treatment of osteoporosis, Paget's disease of the bone, and hypercalcemia associated with malignancy. It is administered as a single yearly infusion when used in patients with osteoporosis who do not tolerate oral bisphosphonates. Several reports of ocular inflammation in the immediate postinjection period have appeared in the literature. Here, we report a case of acute anterior uveitis.
